JEDDAH: The Pakistan Welfare Society (PWS) Jeddah recently organized its 11th annual function at a local restaurant.
The event began with the verses from the Holy Qur’an recited by Qari Mohammad Asif, a naat by Nawaz Janjua and poetry by Sher Afzal.
The function was attended by Sheharyar Akbar Khan, consul general of Pakistan, chief guest; Rafiq Jawaid, minister at the consulate, guest of honor; prominent figures from the professional and business circles and a number of Pakistani men and women. Sameera Aziz, a journalist, was also present.
Shams-ur-Rehman Toor was the stage secretary. Rabia Khatoon welcomed the gathering and highlighted the key activities of the PWS’ ladies wing.
Khalil-ur-Rehman, PWS president, presented the annual report and talked about the progress of the Pakistan Kidney Center, Abbottabad, Pakistan. He said the center was offering cutting edge medical services to the people of Pakistan.
Amjad Obaid, PWS general-secretary, gave a lecture on “Preventive Health” and underscored the importance of healthy eating for a healthy life.
He also talked about the Tibb-e-Nabwi (prophetic medicines), and listed foods that are healthy according to the Holy Qur’an and hadith.
Mehboob Siddiqui conducted a health quiz and distributed gifts among those who answered correctly.
The consul general thanked the gathering as well as the PWS for its community work. He also emphasized “Saudi-Pak brotherly relations.”
He urged the community to continue supporting the PWS’ philanthropic work. He awarded certificates of appreciation among the doctors, non-medical members and volunteers, both male and female, in recognition of their social work from the PWS platform.
Habib-ur-Rehman concluded the session with the supplication for the welfare of the Muslim ummah, especially for stability and peace in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
